Simone Biles Recalls Bizarre Encounter She Had With Her Boo Before They Were Official

Simone Biles went to Instagram on Sunday to share the story of an unexpected encounter that happened with her boyfriend, Jonathan Owens, before the couple was a pair. While sharing the story on social media, the Olympic gymnast posted a photo she took on the Houston Texans’ field in 2019 when she was honored as a special guest during a game, the New York Post reports

Owens, who plays for the Texans, just happened to be in the background as Biles posed for a photo on the field.

“OK how crazy is this photo? Dec. 2019,” the gold medalist wrote, according to the New York Post. “Texans had me for homefield advantage and I lead the team out of the tunnel. But look who’s behind me . . . @jowens_3. God works in mysterious ways.”

A second slide on Biles’ Instagram Story shows Owens walking in front of the camera before she’s introduced to the crowd.

“This is just the craziest thing to find in my phone,” the seven-time Olympic medalist said. “Like HOW!!!!!”

Biles also congratulated her boyfriend on his accomplishments after the Texans closed out the season on Sunday.

“Proud of you and everything you accomplished this year,” she said about Owens. “Day in and day out, never giving up and always showing up and showing out.”

As Blavity previously reported, the couple celebrated their one-year anniversary in August.

“oops I forgot to tell y’all that we’ve been dating for more than a year so happy past 1 year to the best thing that’s ever happened to you: ME,” Biles wrote in the caption of her post, adding a photo of the pair matching in orange, blue and white.

Owens publicly expressed support for his girlfriend after she withdrew from multiple events during the Olympics.

“Your strength and courage is unmatched and you inspire me more and more everyday SB,” he wrote. “You always gone be my champ baby and don’t you ever forget that, I love you so much and I can’t wait till you come home and I get to see that beautiful smile again. You know I’m always here for you baby.”

During an interview with Essence, Biles said the mandatory lockdowns allowed them time and space to connect “on a deeper level.”

“If we can last through quarantine and seeing each other every day and kind of being stuck with each other in the house, then we can last through anything, and I think that’s why our bond is so strong,” she said.
