California Mom Gives Birth To Twins In Different Years— One On New Year’s Eve And The Other On New Year’s Day

Fatima Madrigal and her partner Robert Trujillo welcomed their son on New Year’s Eve and his twin sister on New Year’s Day.

“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” Madrigal said of her twins Alfredo and Aylin, People reports.

The Greenfield, California couple welcomed their son Alfredo at 11:45 p.m. and his sister 15 minutes later on Jan. 1, 2022. The twins were delivered at Natividad Medical Center, 120 miles south of San Francisco.

Alfredo weighed six pounds and one ounce while his baby sister was five pounds and 14 ounces, Republic World reports.

The hospital’s Facebook page captured the mother and the twins.

“I was surprised and happy that she [Aylin] arrived at midnight,” Madrigal said.

Family doctor Ana Abril Arias said this is “one of the most memorable deliveries” of her career.

The hospital took to Twitter rejoicing saying, “At midnight, Natividad welcomed Aylin Yolanda Trujillo as the area’s first baby of 2022!”

”Her twin, Alfredo Antonio Trujillo, was born 15 minutes earlier at 11:45 pm Friday, Dec. 31, meaning their birthday falls on a different day, month and year— a 1 in 2 million chance!” they added

According to the CDC, twins make up for 120,000 births a year in the U.S., making up a little over 3% of all births.
