The Importance of Celebrating Black Liberation on Juneteenth

On “Black News Tonight,” host Marc Lamont Hill takes a look back at the history of Juneteenth in the spirit of Sankofa as the country moves forward to celebrating the national holiday. Congress voted overwhelmingly to make it a holiday and President Joe Biden signed it into law on Thursday. It is now the 12th federal holiday and the second national holiday relating to Black Americans. Africana scholar Dr. Greg Carr joins Hill on the show to discuss the history of Juneteenth, his involvement with holiday celebrations and the continued pursuit of equality for Black America.
