Body language expert talks Chauvin’s facial expressions, body language during trial

After weeks of seeing Derek Chauvin writing on a notepad in the courtroom, the world finally heard him speak when he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights not to testify in his trial.

Though the interaction was brief, Chauvin’s interaction with his defense attorney Eric Nelson revealed more. Global body language expert Linda Clemons joined “Making the Case with Yodit” to give her professional insight on the exchange between Chauvin and Nelson. Clemons said the neurological system impacts facial expressions.

“If he would’ve had the mask off the entire time or if he was able to testify, the moment that he would have been challenged by the opposite team if you will, then he would have an emotion that would be displayed on the face and that moment, that would send a message to the juror,” she said.
